- King Tutankhamun: The head is that of the boy pharaoh emerging from an open lotus flower. The base is painted blue to represent the water in which the flower grows.
- It is a powerful symbol because the lotus flower closes its petals at dusk and opens them again at dawn, facing east to greet the rising sun. Thus, the emerging lotus is the symbol of the sun, which is regenerated each morning after its nightly journey to the regions of the underworld.

The Enigmatic Books of the Netherworld are funerary texts found in royal tombs from the New Kingdom. The earliest version is found on the second sarcophagus shrine of Tutankhamun, while later versions are found in the tombs of Ramesses VI and Ramesses IX.

This Egyptian magic wand (c. 1880 to 1700 BCE) shows a procession of protective deities, including a hippopotamus goddess. Such a wand would have been used in rituals associated with birth and were perhaps used to draw a magical circle around the mother and child.

- "This beautifully decorated headrest, which was then used instead of a pillow, is made out of elephant ivory. When in use, the back of the king's neck would rest on the curved piece of the headrest for support and comfort. The human-like figure holding up the curved support is supposed to represent Shu, the god of atmosphere, and the two lions on the left and right of Shu placed on the base represent the eastern and western horizons. In addition to being a very functional tool for sleeping comfort, the headrest has symbolic and ritual meanings too."

- Alabaster globular vase of Unas (Louvre): Unas built a pyramid in Saqqara, the smallest of the royal pyramids completed during the Old Kingdom. The accompanying mortuary complex with its high and valley temples linked by a 750-metre-long (2,460 ft) causeway was lavishly decorated with painted reliefs, whose quality and variety surpass the usual royal iconography.
