Earrings were worn by men and women, both in life and after death, and were made in many different shapes, using a variety of materials. Gold was commonly used, as were inlays of precious stones and glass. The Egyptians were excellent goldsmiths. Gold was valued in ancient Egypt as a precious metal, and was associated with the gods, particularly the sun god, because of its warm reflective qualities.”

Golden Flies of Queen Ahhotep I.

Necklace of Queen Ahhotep I, or Iah (“peace of the moon”), the mother of Ahmose I. The fly symbolized tenacity, this ceremonial necklace given as an award for valour in battle. This necklace, with three pendants in the form of flies, was given to queen Ahhotep by her two sons Kamose and Ahmose in gratitude for her supportive role during the struggle for liberation against the Hyksos.

Large silver statues are very rare in ancient Egypt. This may have been a figure from a temple of Nefertem. The god of perfume, Nefertem, was also a god of healing who was said to have eased the suffering of the aging sun god Ra with a bouquet of sacred lotus. Late Period, 26th Dynasty, ca. 664-525 BC.
