Swimming in Magic Lake

Swimming in Magic Lake

Surrounded by sand dunes, rock formations and the Mudawara Mountain, this natural wonder is one of Fayoum’s most popular lakes. Named Magic Lake because its waters change colors and hues several times a day, the lake is the perfect spot for a refreshing swim in the middle of the desert. Located in Wadi El Hitan, Magic Lake’s surrounding area is also a popular camping and sand boarding destination.

Pottery at Tunis Village

Pottery at Tunis Village
One of the most beautiful places in all of Egypt, this village is perched atop a hill overlooking the great Lake Qarun, the country’s second biggest lake. The village was transformed in the 1980s by Swiss potter Evelyn Porret who built a country house there in the style of Hassan Fathi’s iconic green buildings, which eventually spread across the village. Porret also helped popularize pottery in the village with a pottery studio. Today, the village is home to some of the country’s best pottery artists. The village is also a popular bird watching and horseback riding destination.

A Day in Wadi El Rayan

A Day in Wadi El Rayan
Home to pristine waterfalls and one of the world’s few remaining populations of the endangered slender-horned gazelle species, this nature reserve is a popular site among bird watchers and sand boarding enthusiasts. This biodiverse protectorate consists of upper and lower lakes connected by waterfalls, the biggest in Egypt. The site, located 65 KM southwest of Fayoum, is surrounded by picturesque springs and sand dunes.

Wadi El Hitan.

Wadi El Hitan
This UESCO World Heritage Site and National Park is one of Egypt’s finest paleontological sites as it is home to the fossil remains of Archaeoceti, “the earliest, and now extinct, suborder of whales,” according to UNESCO. It is considered the world’s most important site for the study of evolution because it helps reconstruct the events of a remarkable shift in our natural history: the whale’s transition from a lan-based mammal to a marine one.

‘LADY OF THE ARAB CINEMA’

‘LADY OF THE ARAB CINEMA’

Faten Hamama is one of Egypt’s and the Arab world’s most prominent producers and actresses and was chosen as ‘Star of the Century’ by the Egyptian Writers and Critics organization at the 2001 Alexandria International Film Festival.
Hamama made her silver screen debut in 1939 when she was only seven years old, and from there, she was on a path to shatter the common depiction of Egyptian women in film as objects – secondary to their male counterparts. Hamama chose to play roles that depicted women as independent and powerful. For example, in Sira Fi Al-Wadi, she played a rich man’s daughter who was a down-to-earth woman that helped the poor.
Today, she remains to be regarded as one of the most important and inspiring actresses in the history of Arabic cinema and is commonly known as ‘The Lady of the Arab Cinema.’

She has been awarded over 20 national and international honorary doctorate degrees from universities and institutions around the world. Is Egypt Safe for Americans to Travel to in 2020?

“I have had a significant interest in Egypt for 40 years. We wanted a trip that let us explore the things I wanted to see and give my wife a full immersion into Egyptian culture and history. We elected to do a private guided tour. The reality is that without the private driver and guide we would have had difficulty traveling from one end of the Nile to the other.
The trip was wonderful. We managed to see all of the things I wanted to see, and my wife also got the full immersion into Egyptian history and culture. The trip was well done and exceeded our expectations. Our thanks to Osiris Tours for all that your team did on our behalf.”   Donald, Osiris Tours guest, January 2020.

An Unlikely Ascent to Power

  • An Unlikely Ascent to Power.
  • But after a reign of just fifteen years King Thutmose II died, making Hatshepsut a widow before the age of thirty. With no sons of their own, and the only male heir a concubine’s infant, and due to the fact that Thutmose III was too young to assume the throne unaided, Hatshepsut served as his regent.
  • Nobody really knows how or when it happened, but ultimately Hatshepsut claimed the role of pharaoh and went on to lead Egypt into a very important era. Hatshepsut’s successful transition from queen to pharaoh was partly because of her ability to influence supporters, including the favored male officials of her father, Thutmose I.
  • There is no doubt Egypt prospered during Hatshepsut’s reign, because unlike other rulers in that dynasty, her priority was securing economic advancement and the building and restoring of monuments, rather than conquering new lands.Queen Hatshepsut, One of the most famous pharaohs
